The Nightmare Circus in Elisabeth
Many, if not most, Elisabeth fans know about the satirical, kitschy, sometimes garish circus aesthetic of the sets in the first two Vienna productions. Among other things, we have bumper cars (Apokalypse), funhouse faces (Die Gaffern), a lit-up carousel (Frau Wolf's Salon), spinning mirrors (Sie passt nicht) and chessboard horses (Wir oder sie) on the stage. However, a more easily overlooked way in which the circus theme manifests is in the music and the score of the show: the melodies used and the choice of instruments.
Above, I've categorised the songs in the show into those containing heavy "circus" elements in temrs of melodies, vibe and instruments (turquoise), those containing slight or partial circus elements (light blue), and those containing none or only containing lyrics related to the circus theme (white). Based on when circus elements appear and when they do not, I've come to the following conclusion:
Musically, Elisabeth is a story about the struggle between genuine emotion expressed by the characters (most notably in songs like Wie du, Ich gehör nur mir, Mach auf mein Engel, Mama wo bist du, Nichts nichts gar nichts, and Wenn ich dein Spiegel wär) and the nightmare circus imposed on them by the political system and the structures of power that surround them - the old world, the order of things, however you want to call it. Characters like Elisabeth, Franz Joseph, Rudolf and ultimately Sophie seek genuine connection to others, deeper understanding, and intellectual and physical freedom, but are constantly thwarted in their efforts to reach these good things by agents, confines, traditions and structures of the nightmare circus. The circus stands for everything that is banal, superfluous, ridiculous, conventional, politically conservative and dysfunctional (conservatism here refers to "traditional conservatism", not the emergence of proto-far-right-nationalism), and protocol-abiding. Its agents, in many cases led by Sophie and including members of the court (lords and ladies; the church; military leaders; politicians) and the bourgeoisie (the cast of 'Apokalypse'), are motivated in their actions by a genuine assumption that this system is something worth contributing to and protecting. But the flipside of the system is that it razes over the personal desires, needs, and grievances of the very royalty that gains its power and legitimacy from the system, as well as the needs and desires of the people (see Milch).
The ultimate expressions and points of fulfillment for "the world as a nightmare circus" are Rudolf's death (a grotesque, carnivalised production - a man who was raised into and lived his life in the nightmare circus and failed to find a human connection to hold on to has no choice but to be consumed by its trappings), Am Deck der Sinkenden Welt (a series of macabre circus tricks befalling various Habsburg relatives - the implication being that it's only a matter of time before the next, which will plunge the world into chaos: and naturally the mind wanders to Franz Ferdinand as the next victim), Elisabeth's death (as Lucheni's trick - listen to the melody during Das Attentat), and finally, even Lucheni's death (grotesquely framed by the music). None of these people were able to connect to others in a meaningful way (I would argue that this is also implied for Lucheni, at least in some portrayals like Serkan Kaya), with devastating results for them personally and for the overall political situation and status quo. Without the forging of meaningful, reliable connections between people based on genuine respect and understanding, the nightmare circus of European "belle epoque" society destroys the people who cannot thrive under its conventions and attempt to break free of its confines. And ultimately, it also destroys itself.
#elisabeth das musical#analysis#meta#kunze cooked so hard in the 90s why did he start making random musicals about love and random historical figures later sjsjsjs#also its happening again (political and rhetoric polarization/military conflict everywhere/people becoming less thoughtful and considerate.#selfishness and self-centeredness and unwillingness to compromise and work together to solve systemic issues that threaten the welfare of#everyone on both local and global levels. lack of empathy and weaponised incompetence. yay)

"Command is not about shouting orders across a bridge. It's about the silence before the storm, the look in your crew’s eyes when they need certainty, and the moment you choose to carry the weight so they don't have to. I don’t lead because I seek power. I lead because someone must be the one who still believes we’ll find the right course through the chaos." ~ Captain Aeyla Deren ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Species: Human (?) So, here she is. Falls ihr irgendwas zu ihr wissen wollt nur her damit, aber hier ist unsere angeklagte Captain. Sie gilt es zu verteidigen, oder tiefer reinzuziehen. Das hier kann in beide Richtungen gehen. :) ~ Lari

Haiii ^-^ I really like the gods' designs in mlp rw and I'm very curious to hear more abt them… Anything you wanna share about their characters or their relationships or their powers or worldbuilding elements? 👀
YAY not much atm beyond just Vibes but here’s just a list of things from off the top of my head:
-my thought is that perhaps they’d all live in a different plane of existence like disc does in canon (might just steal Skyros from g5 but instead of alicorns it’s the gods n all that lol)
-none of them are inherently evil nor good. All start neutral but choose paths later— discord going too far with his chaos but not outright malicious, concord being about peace and order and all but gets that through harmful means/punishing (hence the ties to canon show lore w the wind spirits appearing when there is disharmony), esse is the most traditionally god-like so would be very quiet/Not All There in a way?, cosmos is the balance with it of creation and destruction BUT note. Not death. Just like esse is creation but not Life if that makes any sense at all lmao?? SK honestly is just an asshole LOL no real deeper reasons beyond that tbh that and having a huge ego, serenity (aka allura but I renamed ofc)(was gonna call her aroura to get the same name sound but aroura are at night so that didn’t exactly work w her theme and cyclone and serenity has a good ring) I’ve not thought as hard on but will be one of the in quotes good ones but probably would be kinda bossy/not perfect/almost goth maybe lol? -i hc the gods have a rule of not messing w eachothers business, hence the answer to the age old “why was discord not in the movie/why didn’t he help” question has an answer here lol
-concords hc voice is Spock from star trek to match that discord is a from star trek <3 (here’s a bit of their actors interacting bc they didn’t in the show iirc?? Idk Star Trek don’t quote me on it)
youtube
-another concord idea is bc he’s a winter god and snowdrop is in my rw, I like the idea the snowflakes used to all be identical before they befriended her and they were inspired by her to make snowflakes individual/unique/go against his nature
-dynamics: disc causing intentional highjinx vs con who is very dry/no nonsense, SK vs serenity intentionally annoying eachother they’re one of those siblings who fight all the time and piss eachother off, cosmos very bitter and angry at being banished from Skyros bc she went too far in her destructiveness so she hatesssss all of them not just Esse
-I like the fact Storm is white/cloud colored but Serenity is grey/storm cloud colored teehees I’ll definitely have fun making final colors for her (and maybe a updated SK ref just bc I’ve drawn him a bit more/got his stylization down since the first doodle)
-I like con is Oder but is the only one to break the rule of the gods all having wings bc he runs off Chinese dragon rules to contrast discord traditional dragon rules :3
-initially my doodle of esse was gonna be the one with bug wings but I preferred the look of feathered ones so to not waist the idea I swapped it over to allura bc I think the sectioned colors will look really nice that way, and makes the clear sky idea fitting seeing as bugs are only out when it’s sunny/not raining/butterflies flying around gives the visual of peace
-even though they come from skyros I don’t think they all live there but they travel back and fourth to do their jobs (sk would only leave to cause storms, con leaves for snowstorms (usually stays around crystal empire tho), etc you get the idea they’re not always there it’s just when they are from, esse methinks would be only one to really Stay there and not leave
uhhh no more notes maybe I’ll add more but this was all I can think of rn lols

Fascinating
Word count: 9,038 A/N: I actually sat down, watched Star Trek (2009), with the transcript open to get those bits right.
Read on AO3
George’s jaw clenched, the direness of the situation truly washing over him.
A large red word flashed on screen: “ terminated ”, causing the crew to panic. “Sir, they’re locked on our signal. They’re launching again!” George Kirk was informed.
George looked around as he gave out orders. “Bravo-six maneuver! Fire full spread!” He called out as their ship was attacked again. Fires were breaking out as wires fell from ceilings. The damage was quick, and it would no doubt be fatal.
“Seventeen more out!” George heard someone say.
He was instantly out of his chair. “I’m initiating General Order 13! We’re evacuating!” He went to help a fallen crew member off the floor.
“Yes, sir!”
Once the man was settled, he was back in his Captain’s chair. “All decks, this is the Captain speaking. Evacuate the ship immediately.” He announced. “Get to your designated shuttlecraft. Repeat. Evacuate.”
Panting, being pushed in a wheelchair, Winona looked around. “That’s George’s voice. What’s happening?” She asked, cradling her large stomach.
“You’ll deliver in the shuttle. Go!” She told Winona, and told the other medical offers to keep moving.
Winona opened her comlink to her husband. “George.”
“You’re okay. Thank God.” He couldn’t lose his wife, and their child. “I have medical shuttle 37 standing by. Get to it now. Can you do that?”
“Yes.”
“Everything’s gonna be okay.” He assured her. “Do exactly as I say. Shuttle 37.”
She held her stomach as she breathed. “George, it’s coming.” She told him. “Our baby, it’s coming now.” Not how she pictured the day that she would give birth, that’s for sure!
“I’m on my way.” He told her before moving to some controls. Autopilot.
His heart sank as the computer spoke up. “Autopilot function has been destroyed.” His eyes were on the screen directly in front of him, the words “ auto pilot malfunction ” in all capital red letters. “Manual operation only.” There was no thinking about the choice he had to make. There was no debating if this was what he had to do or not. The only thing on his mind: his wife and unborn child.
Winona screamed as she was rushed through the ship, fire and chaos around her. “That was a big one.”
“Just keep breathing. You’ll be fine.” She was told by one of the medical crew with her.
“And the baby, too, right?”
“And the baby, too.”
She was helped onto a bed as another contraction hit. “Right here. Go ahead and sit back.” The nurse told her.
As the pilot seat of the shuttle was sat in, Kirk’s voice could be heard. “Captain to shuttle 37. Is my wife on board?”
“Yes, sir, she is.” He told Kirk as he hit the buttons he needed to.
“I need you to go now. Do you hear me?”
“We’re waiting on you, sir.”
“No, just go. Take off immediately.” He ordered, ignoring the heartbreak he could feel in his chest. “That’s an oder.”
“Yes, sir.”
Winona wasn’t having it, hearing the shuttle start to lift its landing gear. “No, wait! We can’t go yet!” She protested. “Please stop! Stop!” She tried.
“George?” Winona’s voice could be heard as Kirk sat in the Captain’s chair. “The shuttle’s leaving. Where are you?” She needed him there, and her voice let that be known.
“Sweetheart, listen to me.” He started. “I’m not gonna be there.”
“No.” She managed, but just barely.
“This is the only way you’ll survive.”
She was sobbing by now. “Are you still on the ship? You have to be here!”
“The shuttles will never make it if I don’t fight them off.”
“George, I can’t do this without you.” She told him before being told to push. A scream ripped from her as she did, the shuttle launching from the Kelvin.
As Kirk worked quickly, he knew his wife was having their baby. He had accepted that he would die, the Captain going down with his ship. But that paled into comparison knowing that the two people he loved most would be alive. He flinched as there were sparks flying around him. The words “ system failing ” flashed on the screen, and a calm washed over him for a moment. With a press of a button, the words changed to “ collision course engaged ”.
As the Kelvin moved forward, the calm vanished. His breathing picked up, the heartbreak tearing him apart. The countdown on the screen let him know that he had less than a minute before it was all over, but he knew it would feel like an eternity. His thoughts were broken by the sound of his newborn crying. It was the most beautiful, and the most painful, sound that he had ever heard in his life. “What is it?”
“It’s a boy.” Winona told him emotionally.
For a moment, he felt joy. “A boy?” He smiled, ever so slightly. He had a son . “Tell me about him.”
“He’s beautiful.” She told him. “George, you should be here.”
Hearing his wife’s pain, he teared up. The computer made it worse. “Impact alert.” The screen read 19 and a half seconds.
“What are we gonna call him?” He’d spend those last 19 seconds as a new father.
She sniffed. “We can name him after your father.” She suggested.
He couldn’t help but chuckle slightly. “Tiberius? You kidding me? No, that’s the worst.” He told her. “Let’s name him after your dad. Let’s call him Jim.” He countered. If naming his son was the last thing that he did, so be it.
“Jim. Okay. Jim it is.” She agreed softly.
“Sweetheart, can you hear me?”
“I hear you!” She sobbed.
“I love you so much! I love you…” He yelled as the timer hit zero, expecting to be blown up.
Groaning, George rolled to his side. Cracking his eyes, he looked around. The last thing that he remembered was helping name his son, telling his wife that he loved her…and then bracing for the explosion. He sat up, in a bed that didn’t look familiar. Nothing around him looked, or felt, familiar.
“Ah, you’re awake.” Came a voice, startling him.
“Where am I?!” He asked, looking towards the door where the voice came from. “How did I get here?” He did his best to control his breathing. Was this heaven?
“Asgard, sir.” They informed him. “You appeared from nowhere, if the rumors are to be believed.” They explained. “I will alert the King that you are awake.”
George tried to remember if he had ever heard of Asgard, but out of all the planets that he had studied- that wasn’t one of them. He furrowed his brows. What was going on?! Would he be able to get home? He tried not to let the hope bubble up, but was failing. It was taking over every other emotion that he was feeling.
“I’ll send in an attendant to help you dress, sir.” They gave him a small bow of the head before stepping back into the hall, shutting the door behind him.
“I don’t need help getting dressed.” He muttered to himself, pushing back the blankets. Not that he knew where any clothes were. Glancing at his body, he wasn’t in his uniform anymore. How long had he been there? How long had he been out?
Hearing the door, he looked back over to see a couple young women come in. “We’re here to help you get ready for the day, sir.” One said softly. “My name is Astrid.” She introduced herself.
“And I am Elli.” Said the other.
He blinked. “I am capable of dressing myself.” He assured them. “I do not need you to fuss over me.”
Astrid shook her head. “It is an honor, sir.” She assured him.
A slightly older man quickly stood when George walked into the hall. The woman by his side did the same, a soft look on her face. “I have been told I’m in a place called Asgard, but not how long I have been here. I’m assuming it’s been a bit, my hair’s grown.” He muttered the last bit to himself, running his hand through his longer blonde hair. “… I am truly grateful, but I have a son. That’s one of the last things I remember.” He looked between them. “I need to get home- to Earth.”
The woman placed her hand gently on the man’s arm before making her way towards him. “You have been with us, in the palace, just under two months. You’d been in the village for some time before that.” She explained to him. “For how long exactly, I’m unsure.” Her voice was a bit comforting to him, if he was being honest.
“Why move me?” He wondered. “From this village…to a…wait. Did you say palace ?” He blinked. It was a lot to take in.
“We had hoped that we could help you wake.” The man spoke. “My name is Odin, this is my wife, Frigga.” He explained. “Let us talk over breakfast, shall we?” He gave George a warm smile.
George hadn’t realized that he was starving until Odin mentioned breakfast. All he could do was nod, looking around. He wasn’t sure what to think, or what to feel.
Once the three of them had their plates, he was thankful that Frigga brought up his questions. He had been slightly worried that they would keep avoiding everything. “So, you were found in a farmer’s field from what we were told. You looked like you’d been through something very serious. Your clothes were singed, and ripped.” She started as he began to eat. “The farmer’s wife quickly tended to your wounds as he fetched a doctor. You were looked after by the doctor, and her team. Odin and myself were visiting and I spotted you. She explained what had happened, and how you had yet to wake up.”
He swallowed. He was a stranger, and they still cared for him. “I need to thank them.” He noted.
She smiled softly at that. “And you can. Soon.” She assured him. “Odin and myself…we had always wanted a son. We had the perfect name picked and everything. However, it wasn’t our destiny.” Her smile turned a bit sad.
Odin watched his wife lovingly. “Instantly, she wanted you moved to the palace.” He spoke up, looking towards George. “We had a room prepared for you, and we’ve made sure that you’ve remained cleaned, and taken care of.”
“That explains no beard.” He mused, rubbing his jaw. He’d been wondering how his hair grew out, but his beard hadn’t.
The two couldn’t help but chuckle. “We had hoped, a bit selfishly, that while we may not have raised you…we could take you in as our son.” She admitted.
He was shocked at that. “I’m sorry, but I need to get back to Earth. I need to make sure my wife and son made it back okay.” His heart ached at that. “I don’t know how I got here, but I hope that I can find a way back.”
Odin seemed to think for a moment. “I will see what can be done, but in the meantime, may we treat you as our son? Train you as such, show you the lands.” He asked, hoping things worked out well, mostly for Frigga.
“One more question. If you’ve always wanted a son, couldn’t you adopt?” He wondered.
“I haven’t heard of any children in need of a home.” Frigga told him. “Or we would have.”
George sipped his drinking, letting everything soak in. Setting his mug down, he sighed. “I will do my best to fit in while I’m here.” He wouldn’t give up hope, however. They had been kind, so he could give them this. A son, for even a short while.
Frigga brightened. “Thank you.” She had worried he would rush right out of there. “Please, tell us all about you!”
He couldn’t help but chuckle lightly, although it pained him. He imagined this would be how Winona would be with Jim as he grew- eager to hear everything. “Well, my name is George Kirk, and the same day that I became Captain of the U.S.S Kelvin, the same day my son was born…is the day that our ship had been attacked.” He began, explaining the day that changed his entire life.
Both Frigga and Odin hung on his every word, thankful that somehow, he had survived. Neither could begin to guess how, or why. They watched him get emotional as he relieved his final minutes, hearing his son be born in such a way, saying his final goodbyes, and hearing his wife cry. Frigga teared up, and Odin clenched his jaw slightly. Both felt for him.
Getting up, Frigga moved towards where he was, offering a hug. He was truly about to embark on the fine line of hope, and mourning. He hesitated a moment, but stood and let himself be comforted by her. “I am sure that your son will turn into a fine young man, and he’ll do his best to make you proud.” She assured him softly.
Jim could just barely see over the steering wheel of his father’s car as he sped along the dirt roads of Iowa. As the speedometer read closer to 90, the cell phone began ringing. His eyes glanced to it before answering. It was his Uncle Frank- who was livid. “Hey, are you out of your mind? That car is an antique.” He snapped, as if Jim didn’t know that. “You think you can get away with this just ‘cause your mother’s off planet? You get your ass back home now! You live in my house, buddy. You live in my house, and that’s my car.” Jim glanced at the screen of the phone. It was only ‘his’ because he had claimed it. Didn’t make it true. “You get one scratch on that car, and I’m gonna whip your a--” Reaching over, Jim disconnected the call. That was enough of that.
In the next moment, he turned on some music for the ride. Glancing up, he spotted the releases for the roof and detached each of them. It sent the roof flying backwards in the wind. He watched it hit the ground behind him before his eyes were on the road in front of him again. “Yeah!” He cheered, loving the rush.
It didn’t take long for him to hear a cop behind him, either. He looked in the rear view mirror, slightly panicked for a moment. The cop sped up, driving alongside Jim. “Citizen! Pull over!” He ordered the boy.
Instead, Jim sped up, taking a sharp turn to his right. The cop easily followed him.
He covered his face on instinct as he drove through a gate. Seeing the quarry ahead didn’t cause him to slow down. Instead, he sped up. Until the last moment. “No!” He yelled, slamming on the breaks and turning the wheel to the left in an attempt to not go over the edge. Knowing that he wouldn’t make it, he leapt from the car, onto the dusty ground. He slid towards the edge, barely holding on. He scrambled back up, the sound of the car hitting the bottom of the quarry behind him. Looking up from the ground, he saw the cop standing there. “Is there a problem, Officer?” Jim asked, breathing heavy as he stood.
“Citizen, what is your name?”
He stood a little straighter. “My name is James Tiberius Kirk.”
Odin watched proudly as Thor- who had once been George Kirk- sparred with some of their warriors. It had been thirty years since he’d sat down for breakfast with the two. Knowing that one day, Frigga would lose him…Odin had found a way to make him into a God. A powerful one, at that. Now Thor looked like a God, had the powers of one, and his beloved wife would never lose her son.
In that time, they also gained another son. Loki. He was much younger when they took him in- far too young to even know him and Thor had been adopted. Loki was now 25, and nothing like his older brother. Where Thor was muscular, Loki was lean. Where Thor was physical, Loki much preferred the strength of his mind. Where Thor was boisterous and outgoing, Loki was more reserved- but far from shy. His boys were yin and yang. While they fought, they were also protective of each other.
“Hello, father!” Thor beamed as he wiped his brow, walking towards Odin. He had pushed out all thoughts of his life before. When he realized there was no going back, he dove headfirst into this life. The first five years were the hardest. Knowing he was missing milestones. Knowing that his wife and son believed him dead. Then, he started to hope that Winona moved on. That maybe she found another to show her the love she deserved, and that Jim was being raised into a strong young man. Finally, he started to block things out. Of course he would dream of his past, but that could easily be brushed aside. Of course, what did dreams matter?
“Hello, my son.” He chuckled. “Shall we try fifteen men next time?” He teased, motioning to the warriors who clearly could not keep up with Thor.
Thor laughed, a sound that he and Frigga adored. “Perhaps.” He nodded. “Was there something you needed, father?” He asked.
“Just came to see how training was going, that is all.” He waved a hand.
“It’s going well, I believe.” He was proud. He had worked hard to get where he was. The first time he’d attempted to spar with one of the men…it hadn’t gone that well. Thankfully, things were very different now. “Is mother in the library?” He asked, as sometimes after he trained he would join her there.
Odin smiled, nodding. “Of course. I believe she is playing some game with Loki until you arrive.” He mused.
Jim had been Captain of the Enterprise for five years, and loved his job…but constantly being reminded that his father had died in space was a bit old. He wouldn’t trade his crew for anything , however a tiny part of him wondered how different life would have been had he had his father there. Would he still have joined StarFleet? Or would he have chosen a different path?
Maybe what he needed was a damn break. They all deserved one, in his mind. “I’m Captain, I can choose that, right?” He muttered to himself one night. “A few days. That’s all.” He thought out loud. But where would be a good place to go? Space was wonderful, but where could begin to compare with space?! He’d find somewhere that stuck out.
Thor rushed towards the throne room, as Asgard was in chaos. No one had attacked, but a large ship had come within their sights. He knew where that ship was from, yet could not begin to fathom how it had found Asgard, or why.
“Father!” He burst through the doors. “That ship is friendly.”
Odin looked towards his son. “How can you be sure?” He asked calmly.
Licking his lips, he took a deep breath. “Because that is just like the ship that I was captain of the day I arrived on Asgard.” He told him, trying to hold back excitement that he may get word of his own son.
Frigga gasped at that. There was no way they could know the truth about Thor, so it wasn’t like they were looking for him. They believed he was dead. “I believe it is fate.” She told her husband. “What else could it be?”
“Bring us the Captain!” Odin ordered. “Assure them that they are not in trouble.” He added, not wanting his guards to put the crew on edge. “Sit, my son.” He motioned to Thor’s throne. “I am sure Loki is out causing havoc somewhere.” He sighed.
It felt like an eternity before the large doors opened. In walked three people, one who was clearly a Vulcan. “My name is Captain James T. Kirk of the U.S.S Enterprise, this i-.” One began, causing Thor to quickly rise from his throne. “I’m sorry, was I not supposed to introduce us?” He looked between Odin, Frigga, and Thor, his eyes lingering on Thor.
Thirty years ago, you were born. During a lightning storm in space.” Thor began, making Kirk furrow his brows. “You and your mother were rushed to an escape pod, as there was no hope for the ship.” He went on. Kirk’s companions looked confused, as well. Thor slowly moved down the steps. “Your father, George Kirk…needed to steer that ship. He was on a crash course.”
Kirk clenched his jaw slightly. “He, uh, obviously died.” He pointed out. “How do you know this?” He asked, staring at the man that looked familiar, but he couldn’t pinpoint why.
Odin and Frigga simply watched their son set eyes on his own son for the first time. It was such a bittersweet moment. “No, I did not.” Thor breathed.
“Is this some kind of sick joke?” Kirk’s female companion asked, looking disgusted.
“It is not. I braced myself for impact, an impact that never came.” Thor told her. “Months later, I woke up here.” He explained, not bothered by her demeanor. “Villagers found me in the fields. They took me in, and cared for me. Yet, I did not wake. My parents, Odin and Frigga, took me in.” He turned to motion to them, letting Kirk see. “They cared for me until I woke.”
“Your parents?” He raised an eyebrow.
“We had always longed for a son.” Frigga finally spoke. “When Thor came, we felt our dreams had been answered.” She smiled softly at the man she saw as her grandson. “He was determined to get back to you, and your mother. He spoke of nothing but that. While we tried to find a way, we treated him as our son. For thirty years we have tried to find a way back for him so he could find out what became of you.” She wanted him to know that Thor didn’t just abandon him.
“But…my father’s name isn’t Thor.”
“It is my given name on Asgard. Should you ask anyone, they will see me as Thor. Only my parents know the story.” Thor pointed out. “I am now what you would call a God.”
Kirk took a deep breath, trying to process everything. The man standing in front of him looked familiar because he had seen pictures of his father. Take away the beard, and that was him. He did not look a day older than he did in his Starfleet picture.
“May I request someplace to sit for the Captain?” Asked the Vulcan. He could tell Kirk was not doing well with this information.
“No, Spock.” Kirk shook his head, his hands on his hips. “I don’t need a damn chair.” His tone was softer than the words aimed at his first officer.
“Sir, you cannot tell me this is not taking its toll on you. After all, you have been under the impression that your father died. Yet, he has been living well, as a God, in some place unknown to us.” He raised an eyebrow.
Uhura shot Spock a look. She knew that likely wasn’t helping.
Frigga felt for him. “Would you like some place to relax until dinner? Or would you prefer to return to your ship? Your entire crew is welcome, of course.” She said gently.
“I do not believe that would be feasible. Not only do we have one thousand and twelve people on board, we do require some to remain on board.” He told her.
“I see.” She mused. “Then, may I ask for my grandson to bring those closest to him?” She gave him a gentle smile.
Kirk couldn’t help but nod. Bones was not going to believe this.
Bones stared at him, blinking. “Okay, so you’re trying to tell me that your father, the late George Kirk, did not die on the U.S.S. Kelvin. He ‘magically’...what, teleported… to Asgard?” He sounded skeptical. “Are we sure it’s him?”
Kirk nodded. “I looked right into his eyes, Bones!” He ran a hand through his hair, pacing back and forth. “He knew things that weren’t in the Starfleet report. I’ve read it. I know what’s missing because my mom told me.” He sighed. “It’s him.” He said quietly. “He’s just a God now, who is named ‘Thor’.”
“You mean ‘God-like’, right?” Bones tried to clarify. “There’s no way he has powers or anything.”
“I didn’t ask. What did you want me to do? Go up to him and be like ‘hey, dad, can I see your powers?’?!”
“Whatever. Who are you bringing to this dinner?” He asked, not sure if he wanted to be picked or not.
He finally stopped pacing and sat down. “You, Uhura, Spock, Chekov, Sulu, and Scotty.” He shrugged. “You guys are basically my family on board.” He sank down a bit in the chair. “How do I even begin wrapping my head around this? My father is technically my age. He was 32 when he ‘died’.” It wasn’t like this was something covered in Starfleet. “I don’t know when they ‘made him a God’, but I can’t see him being older than 35.”
Bones nodded. “I wonder if the way they made him into a God could be modified to cure certain illnesses.” He mused.
“Focus, Bones!” Kirk half whined. “I’m about to go to dinner with my father, and my adopted grandparents.” He had about an hour before they all left the ship. “Oh God. He didn’t mention a wife. What if I have some Godly step-mother?!”
Chuckling, he shook his head. “How about you just work on getting to know him?” He suggested. “Isn’t that what your mom would have wanted?” His tone was gentle. “And maybe stop acting like a 16 year old who got told he can’t use the car to go on a date.” He teased him. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving it. It’s hysterical. However, I don't think your father wants to see the childish side of you right off the bat. Ease the poor man into it.” He smirked.
“He was actually ‘pouting’?” Spock asked McCoy as they made their way to meet Kirk to leave. He sounded slightly amused at the thought.
McCoy nodded, chuckling. “He did! Slouched in the chair and everything.” He told him.
“Can we not tell everyone this story?” Kirk gave the pair a bored look. He didn’t need his crew, but especially Spock, viewing him that way. “Please?” He sighed, thankful when they finally nodded in agreement.
It didn’t take long for the others to arrive, and they all made their way towards the palace. Everyone was excited, and nervous. This was beyond anything they had ever dreamed of before. Not only that, but they had all learned about George Kirk in school. Uhura gave Kirk’s arm a quick squeeze of support as the doors opened. She couldn’t imagine how he was feeling. They had come a long way from the first night they met at the bar.
He gave her a small appreciative smile. If he was honest, part of him was looking forward to getting back into space where she got sassy with him. It was something he was used to, and that was comforting. “Please don’t be afraid to be your usual sarcastic self.” He whispered to her, making her chuckle lightly. “We both know Spock will be, well, Spock.” There was a bit of pride in his voice at that. He wouldn’t have Spock any other way.
“That he will.” She snorted. “We know he will never change.”
“Eh, remember I met old Spock.” He told her. “I think he changes a bit, but not so much that he’s not Spock.” He felt a fondness for older Spock, if he was honest.
Before she could reply, Thor entered. “Welcome!” He beamed. His blonde hair was in a low ponytail, and he had changed into different clothes from earlier.
McCoy felt an instant attraction to him. While, sure, he could see some similarities between him and Kirk…this did not look like the same man from that Starfleet portrait. He had certainly taken care of himself. Where Kirk’s smile was goofy, and charming, Thor’s was warm and inviting. He found himself wanting to hear the man’s entire life story.
“That’s McCoy, Uhura, Sulu, Spock, Chekov, and Scotty.” Kirk introduced everyone. There was a tension in the air, and for once he didn’t think his usual tactics would work. No being a smartass for this mission.
“I cannot wait to get to know you all.” He told them. “Especially you, my son.” His voice softened as he spoke to Kirk. “Would you like a tour before dinner?” He offered, hoping that would help them ease into things.
Uhura couldn’t help herself, nodding quickly. “Please, everything here is gorgeous!” She grinned.
“You would be correct.” Thor told her. “Follow me. We shall start in my favorite area- the training area.” He turned to lead them out.
McCoy was thankful no one could see his eyes as he found himself watching how Thor’s pants clung to him. It wouldn’t be good for Kirk to catch him checking out his father. He doubted that his best friend would be too pleased.
“Thor! Come to train again?” A female warrior asked, grinning at him.
Thor laughed, shaking his head. “That eager to lose again, Sif?” He asked playfully. “But, alas, not today. I am simply giving my son and his friends a tour.” He explained, motioning to the small group.
Her face went from playful, to shocked. “Son?!” She asked, blinking up at him. “So the rumors are true?”
“They are. This is James.”
“Jim.” Kirk corrected awkwardly. Was Sif his girlfriend?
She glanced at him, then at Thor, then back to him. Her eyes looked him over, and he wasn’t sure what to make of it. “You are clearly not a warrior.” She mused.
“Uh, no.” He chuckled lightly. “I’m Captain.”
Her attention was fully on him now, leaving the others to watch. “Should a captain not be as capable as their men?” She asked.
“We tend not to fight in battles, at least on land.” He shrugged. “And on the off chance that happens, we have phasors.” He explained, making her raise an eyebrow. “We don’t use swords.”
“What honor could be gained from such battles?”
“In our society, honor isn’t given through battles. Or, less than it used to.” He felt the need to defend himself. “It’s through discovery, helping people, and saving lives.” He went on.
“Are you an honorable man, Jim?” She smirked, enjoying this back and forth.
It was Spock that spoke up. “Jim is one of the most honorable men I know.” He told her, praising his captain.
“For all his faults, I’d have to agree.” Bones added. “Don’t let that go to your head.” He teased Kirk. “You’re still a pain.”
Jim winked at his best friend. “You love me.” He chuckled as Bones rolled his eyes. Looking back to Sif, he shrugged. “I don’t act for honor. I do what I feel is right.”
She grinned at that. “I like you, Jim.” She patted his cheek before turning to Thor. “Bring him to training tomorrow. I’d like to see him in action.”
The smile on Jim’s face fell. “I’m sorry, you what?” He blinked.
Uhura snorted. “Oh, this I have to see.” She grinned. “It’ll be like that night in the bar all over.” She laughed as Jim shot her a look. “At least there will be no tables for you to land on this time.”
Thor looked amused. “Are the pair of you together? Your mother must adore her!”
“Nope, we are not together.” Uhura shot that down. “He hit on me that night, but I turned him down.” She explained.
“And mom died.” He sighed. “She would have liked you, though.” He added to Uhura. “He’s not wrong.”
Thor’s amusement quickly dissipated. “Oh.” He said sadly. “I’m sorry.” He told Jim sincerely.
Sif gave Jim a sympathetic look, as he was clearly bothered. “Let’s just move on. What’s next on the tour?” Jim asked, not wanting to dwell on his mother’s death. He’d much rather focus on this weird ‘my dad is alive, and is a God’ thing, honestly.
“Of course.” Thor said somberly before turning to Sif. “We shall see you tomorrow.” He promised her.
With a nod, she went back to her own training.
The tour went much better after that, and soon they were entering the dining hall. “Ah, Loki! There you are!” Thor’s voice boomed. “I have been looking for you. Come! Meet your nephew!” He grinned. Of course there was still this off underlying feeling, but he was doing his best. He wanted to embrace fatherhood while his now grown son was there. The thought of them parting hurt. How would they stay in touch? Would that even happen? Or would these be the only memories he had of him?
Loki rolled his eyes. “Brother, I have no interest in Midgardians.” He told him blandly.
Thor shook his head. “Not even your nephew?” He asked, trying to urge the dark haired man to stop being so stubborn. Even if he felt it likely wouldn’t work.
Sighing, he gave Jim a sarcastic smile. “So lovely to meet you.”
Jim smirked right back, chuckling. “Right back atcha.” He felt he could somewhat get along with him.
That amused Loki, making him step forward a bit. “Is that so?” He asked. “Something tells me you aren’t as stuck up as many Midgardians.”
“Ah, there you are!” Odin’s voice made everyone look away from Kirk and Loki. “Your mother is on her way, and hopes that our dear grandson will sit near her.” He smiled, knowing this was something his wife looked forward to. Granted, she had always assumed that she would be there for her grandchildren from the beginning, but that didn’t change her excitement.
Jim nodded. “Of course, if that’s what she’d like.” He agreed, not wanting to be rude. Although he really didn’t see them as his grandparents. It was a weird thing to wrap his head around. They were Gods, he was mortal for starters.
Finally, they were all sitting, enjoying their meals and mead. “How long have you been captain, James?” Odin asked, curious.
“Almost five years now.” He said happily. “Best job ever.” He told him honestly.
“Tell us how you became captain.” Frigga smiled, wanting to hear as much about his life as she could while he was there.
He chuckled nervously. “Uh, that’s a funny story, actually.” He told her. “I’ll let Uhura over there tell you about the night I met Captain Pike, the captain before me. She loves this story and I can tell she’s just itching to tell you all the details.” He smirked at her.
Laughing, Uhura nodded. “Oh, you have no idea, Captain.” She was amused at this. “Me and a bunch of other Starfleet cadets were at this backwoods bar in Iowa. I went up to get us all some drinks, and he’s already had at least a few.” She went on, sipping her mead before going on.
“Hi, I’d like a Klabnian Fire Tea, three Budweiser Classics, two Cardassian Sunrises and uh…”
“Gotta try the Slusho. It’s good.”
“The Slusho mix. Thank you.” She smiled at the bartender.
“That’s a lot of drinks for one woman.” Kirk spoke up from around an alien that was between them.
Uhura kept her eyes on the bartender. “And a shot of Jack straight up.”
“Make that two, shots on me.” Kirk tried, motioning between the two of them. He would not pass up the chance to hit on a pretty woman.
“Her shots on her.” She told the bartender before looking to Kirk. “Thanks but no thanks.”
“Do you at least want to know my name before you completely reject me?” He asked.
“I’m fine without it.”
Kirk smirked. “You are fine without it.” He told her as she kept her eyes on the bar in front of her, trying to keep a straight face. “It’s Jim, Jim Kirk. If you don’t have to tell me your name, I’m gonna have to make one up.” He flirted.
“It’s Uhura.”
“Uhura, no way. That’s the name I was gonna make up for ya. Uhura what?”
“Just Uhura.” She said simply.
“They don’t have last names on your world?” He asked, completely unbothered if that was the case.
“Uhura is my last name.” She informed him.
“Well then, they don’t have first names on your world?” He wondered, getting up from his barstool to move closer to her. “So you’re a Cadet, you’re studying…what’s your focus?” He leaned his elbow on the bar, enjoying this back and forth they had going.
“Xenolinguistics. You have no idea what that means.”
“The study of alien languages, morphology, phonology, syntax. It means you’ve got a talented tongue.” As he spoke, she turned so that her back was against the bar and leaned her elbows on it.
“I’m impressed. For a moment there, I thought you were just a dumb hick who only has sex with farm animals.”
Not one to pass up a good joke, Kirk was unphased. “Well, not only.” He said easily, making Uhura laugh.
All eyes went to Jim. While the crew had heard this story before, it never failed to amuse them. “Can you blame me? I was drunk, and Uhura was a babe.” He defended himself.
Odin looked quite amused at the tale so far. “I take it you are quite the lady’s man?” He asked.
“Oh yeah.” Spock, Uhura, McCoy, Sulu, Chekov, and Scotty all answered at once.
“Anyways.” Jim shook his head. “Another cadet came up to ask if I was bothering her. She said I was, but I was nothing she couldn’t handle.”
“At which point you said ‘you could handle me. That’s an invitation’. As I was about to take my shot.” Uhura reminded him. “Don’t skimp on the details.” She smirked.
Sighing, he continued. “The other cadet told me to ‘mind my manners’. I told him ‘relax cupcake, it was a joke’. He didn’t like that. He called me a farmboy and said maybe I couldn’t count. That there were four of them, one of me. I told him to go get more to make it a fair fight. I patted his cheek, went to turn around and bam. I’m getting decked.” He took a bite of his meat as he remembered that night. The night that changed his life.
A fight ensued, no one wanting to back down. Kirk did fairly well holding his own against the Starfleet Cadets, even as Uhura yelled ‘enough!’ He was lifted from the ground and slammed on a table, before being held down and beat some more. After three hard punches, a whistle rang out, causing the fight to cease.
“Outside, all of you. Now.” With that order, the bar began to clear. Kirk remained laying back on the table, his arms hanging off the side. “You alright son?” Pike asked him.
Slurring his words, Kirk spoke up. “You can whistle really loud, you know that?”
Later, Kirk sat at a table, napkin in his nose to stop the bleeding, as Pike sat across from him. “You know, I couldn’t believe it when the bartender told me who you are.” Pike spoke up.
“Who am I, Captain Pike?”
“Your father’s son.” He said simply.
Kirk looked at the bartender, holding up his glass. “Can I get another one?”
Pike remained unphased. “For my dissertation, I was assigned the USS Kelvin. Something I admired about your dad, he didn’t believe in no-win scenarios.”
“Sure learned his lesson.”
“Well, it depends on how you define winning. You’re here, aren’t ya?”
“Thanks.”
“You know, that instinct to leap without looking, that was his nature, too, and in my opinion, it’s something Starfleet’s lost.” Pike went on.
“Why are you talking to me, man?”
“‘Cause I looked up your file while you were drooling on the floor. Your aptitude test is off the charts, so what is it? You like being the only genius-level repeat offender in the midwest?” He wasn’t convinced. He could see a fire in Kirk.
“Maybe I love it.” Kirk said sarcastically.
“Look, so your dad dies. You can settle for less than an ordinary life. Or do you feel like you were meant for something better? Something special? Enlist in Starfleet.”
Kirk actually laughed at that. “Enli-” He couldn’t even finish the word without laughing again. “You guys must be way down on your recruiting quota for the month.”
“If you’re half the man your father was Jim, Starfleet could use you. You could be an officer in four years. You could have your own ship in eight. You understand what the Federation is, don’t you. It’s important. It’s peacekeeping and humanitarian armada.”
He shrugged. “He told me where to find him the next day, and when. I said screw it. I went there, told him I’d do it in three.”
“You did not wish to be a member of Starfleet before then?” Thor asked softly.
Kirk shook his head. “Hadn’t crossed my mind.” He told him honestly. “Or I would have enlisted before then.” He went on to explain how he went from Cadet to Captain in just three years. Including the not so fun details of getting kicked off the Enterprise and finding his way back on it.
“Wow.” Frigga breathed. “So much excitement!” She didn’t say anything about the conversation with Pike, as she couldn’t. The events of that caused the death of George Kirk had brought her her beloved son.
Loki was grinning, and finally spoke up. “I like you.” He was beyond amused at this story. “I bet you have a ton of excellent mischief stories.” He chuckled. “You seem to be nothing like my dear brother.”
Jim sipped his mead, shrugging his shoulder. “I can’t say. Everything I know about him was from Starfleet and Captain Pike.” He said honestly. “And Starfleet only taught us the positives.”
“They teach about me at Starfleet?” Thor sounded surprised.
“Well, yeah. I mean, to them you died saving everyone that was on board the USS Kelvin that day.” Jim nodded. “It makes sense they would teach about you.”
Loki rolled his eyes. “I bet that was a great deal of fun for you, being his son.” He knew being known as “Thor’s brother” was maddening enough. Being the son of someone like that? No thank you!
“Eh.” Jim started. “I mean, it was annoying at first because I got looks, but after being in class with the same people? It kinda died down.” He was thankful for that. “It did make it so the higher ups expected more of me, though. Like I had to try twice as hard to be given the same respect because they wanted more.”
“Which also led to him taking things less seriously.” McCoy noted. “He was hellbent on having a good time.” He explained, no hint of judgment in his voice. Then again, who knows if he would have been the same way had the roles been reversed? If McCoy’s father had died like Kirk’s, would he have had the same back way of looking at life?
After some more talk of Kirk’s life, everyone was led to a lavish room for the night. Kirk was just about to get into bed when there was a knock at the door. Confused, he went to open it to see Thor. “May I speak with you a moment?” Thor asked.
“Yeah, sure.” He nodded, stepping aside. “What’s up?”
“I was contemplating requesting to join you when you leave.” He told him honestly. “However, who knows if you’ll come back here, or if I’ll be able to return.” He went on. “I just know that I do not wish to say goodbye to my son.”
Jim wasn’t entirely sure how to reply to that. “Well, the others seem to be enjoying themselves. I can’t see us leaving right away. Maybe a week or two?” He figured maybe that would help Thor a bit.
Thor nodded. “I look forward to that time with you.” He gave him a small smile. “I believe Sif will, too. She seems to be eager to see you in action.”
Clearing his throat, he looked away at how that could be taken in more than one way. “She is going to be disappointed. I’m trained in hand to hand. Not sword fighting. Sulu is, though.” He noted. “But I think that’s more of a fencing thing? Not entirely sure.”
“I guess we shall see tomorrow. If he is up for that.” He could tell there was a thick tension in the air. He hoped it would pass soon, and let them bond.
Kirk was torn. He’d be lying if he said he hadn’t been enjoying the time they spent in Asgard, but the Enterprise meant everything to him. They had been there nearly two weeks, longer than they had spent in any one place on their mission before. At the moment, he was sitting under the stars with his crew, enjoying a drink.
“I can see the gears turning in your head, Jim.” McCoy spoke up, making Kirk give him a small smile.
“You okay?” Uhura asked softly. While she loved giving him a hard time, she was also there if he needed to talk.
After a moment, he licked his lips, eyes staying on the stars. “I don’t know if I want to leave.” He said so softly he didn’t know if anyone even heard him. “My mom is gone, and I grew up hearing about what a great guy my dad is.” He sighed. “You guys are my family, and I don’t want to leave you, or the Enterprise, either.” He shook his head.
No one knew what to say, and all eyes went to Spock when he spoke. “What if none of us left?” He mused, shocking them all. Out of everyone, they assumed he would be the one to remind them of their mission, of their orders.
Looking around, everyone tried to read the others. Would that be something that everyone even wanted? McCoy had been getting a bit closer to Thor, and found himself leaning towards staying. If he left, would Thor be his greatest ‘what if’? Before he could stop himself, he agreed with Spock. “I agree with the pointy eared bastard.” He chuckled, smiling at him. “It’s the best mix of having a home and still exploring and learning.” He added.
Kirk was honestly floored that any of his crew wanted to stay, let alone Spock and McCoy. Those were the two that would have been the ones to urge him not to stay. He didn’t hide his surprise, either. “Really?” He blinked. “That was the opposite of that I thought either of you’d say.”
“Same here.” Scotty laughed. “I thought it would be me, Sulu, and Chekov who would want to stay, but McCoy and Spock would have wanted to go. Uhura would have been in the same boat as our Captain.” He shrugged, sipping his mead. “Now we really do have something to think about, though.”
A silence settled over their group as they all looked to the stars, those thoughts weighing on them.
“Can I talk to you?” Kirk asked Thor after breakfast the next day. “Alone?” He specified.
Thor was surprised at that, but not unhappy. “Of course.” He agreed. “Walk with me.”
They walked in silence for a bit, until finally there was no one in ear shot. Finally, Kirk gathered his courage. “Me and the others were talking.” He started, looking around. “About…not leaving.” He told Thor.
“You would wish to stay? All of you?” He asked, truly surprised. There was no way he would have ever expected that to come out of his son’s mouth.
Kirk nodded. “Last night we were sitting around, enjoying some fresh air, and star gazing.” He began. “I told them I didn’t know if I wanted to leave. My mom is gone, and I grew up hearing what a great guy you are. However, they’re my family. We’ve gone through hell and back together. So I don’t want to leave them, or the Enterprise, either.” He ran a hand through his hair. “Spock then asked ‘what if none of us left?’, and Bones agreed. He pointed out it’s the perfect mix of having a home and still getting to explore. I had been thinking he was gonna be the one to call me an idiot.”
Thor couldn’t lie, he loved the idea of all of them staying. “You do not need to rush such a decision.” He assured him. “Should you choose to stay for now, we will not turn you away. If you decide in a year you wish to leave, we will not keep you here.” Although it would be even harder to say goodbye down the line. “What if only some of you wish to remain?” He wondered.
“Then I’d appoint whoever was highest ranking left on the Enterprise as Captain.” He told him. “I love being Captain, and I think I’d miss that.” He admitted. “But if I left, I might miss here.” And you , he thought. He was growing used to having a father, no matter how strange things were.
He could tell it was weighing on him, and decided to lighten the mood. “I’m sure Sif would quite enjoy it if you stayed.” He smirked at his son, making Kirk chuckle. “I think she is growing fond of you.”
Kirk shook his head. “You sure it’s not just because I’m your kid?” He raised an amused eyebrow.
“Unlikely.” He laughed. “She is one of the men to me, and she feels like one of the men, as well.” He explained. “So, I highly doubt that is the case.” He assured him, not being opposed to the pairing. “I am sure she would be pleased to train you to eventually be a captain here, or as close as you can get to it.” Would that help Kirk to want to stay? Thor knew he was being selfish, but he’d already lost so much time with him!
“I hadn’t thought of that.” He mused, intrigued at the idea. “Would…would I eventually be able to be like you?”
“If you were to train enough, work out consistently. I can’t see why not. I can assist with that.” It honestly sounded like a good way to bond.
“Oh, I don’t mean all buff.” He chuckled. “I don’t think that would look good on me. I meant a God.” He sounded almost shy. “I mean, it sounds like it would be a good idea. So you wouldn’t have to watch me die, and we would have more than enough time to make up for the last few decades.” He was clearly nervous about this topic.
Thor thought for a moment. “I am sure that would be easily done in time. I would need to discuss this with my parents, but I cannot see them saying ‘no’. Mother adores you.” He put his hand on his shoulder. “After I speak to them, I shall let you know.”
Kirk smiled. “Thanks. I’ll keep you updated on who wants to stay and go.” He promised.
They’d been in Asgard a month when Thor, Sulu, Kirk, Uhura, Spock, McCoy, Chekov, and Scotty discussed what was going to happen. “I believe I was told a decision has been made?” His eyes scanned the group, locking with McCoy’s for a moment. The pair had been getting closer since Thor spoke with Kirk.
McCoy laughed, far from sober at the moment. Loki was regaling everyone with tails from when he’d pranked Thor over the years. Everyone was greatly amused, and even Thor couldn’t hold back his laughter. “Careful, doctor.” Thor told McCoy, his voice low, as McCoy nearly fell off of his chair. Standing, he helped McCoy up. “I will get Leonard to his room.” He told the others, although only Spock made it known that he’d heard.
Once they were out of ear shot, McCoy felt brave. Looking up at Thor, he licked his lips. “I wouldn’t be opposed to being carried.” He flirted. “I bet I’d weigh nothing to you.” He added.
Thor smirked, not stopping his steps as he easily lifted McCoy bridal style. “Better, doctor?” He flirted back, his eyes darting to the dark haired man in his arms. He was amused to see McCoy’s cheeks a bright pink.
“I bet that comes in super handy in the bedroom.” He breathed before he could stop himself.
“A great deal. Would you care to find out?”
“Fuck yes.”
He was now quite fond of the doctor, and truly hoped that he was one that decided to stay. At least he felt that McCoy felt the same.
Kirk nodded. “Sulu isn’t staying. He has a family back home. He’s taking over the Enterprise. Myself, Uhura, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, and Chekov have all decided to stay.” He watched Thor’s face light up with excitement at the news. What he wasn’t expecting was to see Thor pull McCoy into a kiss. “Um.” He blinked, looking at the others, confused.
“I was hoping you’d stay.” Thor grinned.
McCoy chuckled at that. “I’m not going anywhere.”
“I am so lost.” Kirk muttered.
“I’m sorry, my son!” Thor turned to him. “The doctor and myself have been enjoying each other’s company for the past couple weeks. I had been worried I’d be saying goodbye. I had a ‘gut feeling’ you would be staying, however.” He didn’t want Kirk to think he hadn’t been worried about him leaving. Of course he was, but he had been all but sure he was staying.
“Fascinating.” Spock mused.

My experience at an In-N-Out
Long post!
The In-N-Out in Alameda, CA is like no other restaurant I have ever been to. Tonight (October 14, 2024) has me wondering what I saw.
I live with a coop and had just cleaned up a community event called Queer Bedtime Stories. It was nice and quiet and had me hungry after the fact. So I did what any neurodivergent going through burnout would do: go to a fast food restaurant. Even if it took the same amount of minutes to drive and order than to actually cook something. Fast food restaurants have something going for it that at-home meals don't: driving. You can drive and put some distance between you and the day you just had.
The parking lot was pretty quiet once I arrived. There was a group of people outside. Not a crazy thing to see on a Thursday, but still noticeable.
I walked into the building and then the Noise happened. There was a group of high schoolers in front of me wearing cheap suits. One of them had a green hat that said "Cena approved."
They take a while to order. This gives me time to look around and see that the entire place is filled with high schoolers. I could count the number of people over 20 on my hand. And most of them were working behind the counter.
The girl behind the counter has this thousand yard stare that fast food cashiers learn early on. I was once among those ranks, and can spot that look a mile away. Or is it a thousand. I'm too tired to make puns.
She starts the casual "Hey how're you" business, to which I respond. I'm careful with it because I once came in and said something stupid like "You look as tired as I feel." I don't know where that came from and I feel bad every time I see this lady so I try never to hold an actual conversation with her. My predictable burger orders are the safe confines of my guilt and I dare not stray.
I give my order: A number two. No onions. For here, yes. I confirm my order and thank her and leave for the drink machine.
There is no order here. There is only chaos with body oder. There is... some kid in a cheesy Daphne costume with a neon green tie (she doesn't wear one... why?) is hanging out with at least a dozen other people taking over the booths in the center of the restaurant like a bunch of "cool kids."
Next in the line from hell I see several people with I can only describe (and rather poorly) are bald caps. One of them has hand-drawn a blue arrow on the top of it and her arms.
"Oh no," I exclaim. "They're the Avatar..."
I've sat down. The only seat available to me is next to the drink machine. It had someone in a red skirt and black top sitting there, but she disappeared like a ghost.
Maybe the realm between the living and the dead have already thinned. After all, there's a super moon out tonight. I think it's called the Hunter Moon...
The people in bald caps slap each other one by one like it's a form of greeting. They continue to do this as they wait in line. The girl who took my order now has a two thousand yard stare. An impressive feat, truly.
My order is finally called out, alongside five other dine-in and to-go orders. We almost can't see the difference. It's a sea of fries in all the chaos.
As I bite into my burger I decide to put in my noise cancelling headphones and listen to a podcast. But that thought is stopped when the cool kids start clapping and applauding. Several phones are out. Daphne with a tie has a shit eating grin as a friend proclaims, "He's coming out! He's coming out! Everybody!"
I stare in horror and second-hand embarrassment as my stomach growls at me to keep eating.
The discount Avatar group has sat down behind me and decides now is the time to wish someone happy birthday. It is midnight, after all. Gotta get in the well-wishes early I suppose. After that, they keep themselves busy by shouting out the four elements and reminding themselves that they're all the Avatar.
I look over at the line. It's finally dying down. I see more suits. These look like there was a little more money put into them. I see pin stripe. I decide to leave when I see a young lady with voluminous frizzy black hair, a smiling round face sitting on top of a white shirt and blazer that looks pretty good with her pin stripe pants. It just feels like a full circle moment for some reason.
My burger was fine but the fries left a lot to be desired. That's fine, I just need to leave because the stomach is no longer yelling at me. The screaming, hooping, and hollering has yet to stop, though.
I look up at the counter one last time and see that the lady who took my order is no longer there.
It's 12:15am. I get up.
Someone in a dog costume walks past me. I get a refill next ot the hand-drawn Avatar lady. And I step through the double door of the Alameda In-N-Out.
And the noise is contained. It does not escape. I am alone, starting to get cold, looking up at the Hunters Moon. It's a little bit closer to Halloween, but the costumes and shenanigans are already here.
I just survived a fast food restaurant in the middle of the night during the full moon of October.
#I have no idea what just happened#I don't know what to put in the tags#I feel like I just survived a haunting or something#Halloween#halloween vibes#in n out

Superman: Miracle Monday 27/27 -Elliot S. Maggin
18
“It was over. He was horribly embarrassed. He was mortified. A big part of him, the mortal part, was killed.”p.153 There were species on Earth whose heartbreak would cause death, now Superman felt he was going to die. News traveled the world before it really hit him, now, as he flew through the sky, he was totally alone. Now, in his Fortress, was the only privacy he had left and listened to it all, all across the world. “Superman was part of the song. He had an instrument in the orchestra of the Earth. He was not, in the overall scheme of things, an outsider.”p.156 He listened to everything work together to make Earth, maybe he bounced to the rhythm too when he came as a baby. He listened to the Oder of Life, wondered what the sound of the Universe would be if he could hear in a vacuum. Somewhere the devil possessed a girl and destroyed what made him feel like a part of the world, but now he realized he had become a part of the world and Order and the demon was disrupting it, so he dove to meet the agent of Hell.
19
By this time CW Saturn had already brought about chaos Superman was starting to clean up the mess. In the upside down PanAm Building (so these are Mxyzsptlk shenanigans) the people sat on light fixtures as Superman made ramps to evacuate them before flipping the building right side up. (he has a soft spot for American pop culture) He wondered what CW Saturn was up to as Kristin was in a park surrounded by fire and a crowd and told Superman to come make him unscary before disappearing in a smoke puff. Superman went to see Lena, but seeing him the sensitive woman shrieked and fainted. (well you were completely useless) When he went to Max Mavin he was expected and was told he doesn’t know much, they can’t exercise CW Saturn, he’s an arch demon. He has to defeat CW Saturn somehow, impossible but heroes thrive on that. If he loses all order is gone starting with Earth and expanding to the Universe until all four dimensions break and revert to before the Creation, it won’t be pleasant for living things. (no shit) Chaos continued for weeks and in it Superman left for Skvrsky.
20
It was another week before he could go back to Clark’s apartment and saw Lois collecting papers into a briefcase, people had already stripped it down to the wall phone. (they even took the elevator button) With Superman busy and seeming uninterested, (he’s wasn’t uninterested he had a crisis and priorities) Lois become his executor but all that was left was old papers, but she still looked for important things. He calls out to her but she’s cold to him for not telling her. “You’re a stranger. Do you realize that? In all the years I’ve known you, you’ve been a stranger. How do you think that makes me feel?”p.166 He apologizes, he would have told her. Where has he been, saving the Earth, not coming to his friends when he’s in a crisis or even leaving a note to the one he loves. (lady he just lost his safety net and do you not see the shit going on in the world)
Lois asks if she was a part of his disguise to help him act normal. “Was I just somebody to have tagging along on your arm in Time magazine so we puny mortals could think of you as a living, breathing Earthman who just happened to be an immigrant?”p.167 (you knew both personalities do you really think that little of him) Her last boyfriend was a psychologist who always talked about issues and broke up with her saying she had too many. (well he’s not wrong but I also think he was just being douchey) Superman says her ex couldn't handle a strong-willed woman, she tells him to read more psychological journals as she cleans up the mess of her life. He holds her as she cries, she asks if he’s not using some hormones to make her love him, (I’m sure there’s a Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane comic with that plot) he wouldn't do that. That’s the point, for years he’s hid this and she can’t trust him anymore, he could have been laughing at her the whole time. (you really don’t know him if you think that okay feel betrayed but don’t accuse him of being a super dick)
There are a lot of discussions between those that are insecure in their love, the purpose is to resolve the issues. Superman wanted to tell her he was unsure he could have her without Clark to live on an equal footing. Lois would say a woman with Superman would have been uninterested in a normal man, on her footing she was born to love Superman, (honey no) if he died as an infant there would be no Lois Lane because there’d be no place for her. (you seemed to be doing well before he got hired at the Planet) They were both afraid of being alone, but unfortunately none of it was said as then the sky lit up in an emergency as CW Saturn rode a carpet of pollution over Metropolis. (so he’s Captain Pollution)
21
Perry (it says White looks like an older Bruce Jenner and I don’t know if this aged like milk or wine because of the irony) says everyone's comparing Kristin to Mxyzsptlk, (I called it) he has magic powers, pulling similar stunts. The current big news was Clark and the demon that possessed Kristin. Perry had trouble believing that, but Jimmy felt ready to explode and feeling the need to do something, he took Lois to a show. (well that’s something I guess) He thought if he stuck around, Perry, who spoke detached about Kristin, he’d do something even more foolish, disagree with him in public. Perry goes on that whatever it is Superman is vulnerable to it and unlike Mxyzsptlk, the girl’s intention isn't fun, (if you could describe what Mxyzsptlk does funny) she tore away his tie to humanity and kept him busy with her antics. Two reasons he hasn't stopped her yet, he wants to know her intentions or he might not know how besides killing her. Jimmy points out she hasn't killed anyone, Clark wasn't an actual murder. (take note of that)
He’s happy he’s Superman, couldn't have happened to a nicer guy, (Jimmy they usually say that because they wanted the bad thing to have happened to the person) he doesn't know why he won't stop by for lunch anymore. He’d call him Superman as they’d have coffee and that’s the problem, if Superman is Clark, he’s among Earthmen, if they knew he’s Superman, he becomes a dangerous personality. (again you guys act like you know nothing about him) If Kristin’s plan is to discredit Superman and push him to insanity who’s to say, when asked if he’s seen him Lois ran out of the office. Perry then speculates if it is really a demon and Kristin is gone one must assume that Superman has no alternative than to destroy the body.
The day before the third Monday in May, a cold front was moving in, Metropolis had no power and food was running low. This would be WGBS’s last broadcast to seventy-eight televisions and Superman was watching one. Four minutes after it Jimmy hated Perry for suggesting the murder of Kristin, hated the logical argument, but Jimmy was the only one that didn't perceive his sorrow. Jimmy hated him until he went into the men’s room and heard Perry throw up in the next stall.
22
A generation still young that grew up in the States and Soviet Union were constantly reminded of the apocalypse that rode along with civilization. “The more intricate and refined life become in the twentieth century, the close rode violence and the specter of mass death.”p.177 The nightmare came then Monday May morning as the generation always knew it would, but instead of a human it was the hand of the devil. Superman was flying for days, dreaming for minutes, (so he can dolphin sleep) the Kents, Krypton, his infant self, wanting to introduce both sets of parents as they shared dinner. Kristin woke him up that she set the holocaust, below was flames and Superman would go with it. Kristin’s distorted laugh followed him as nuclear warheads came alive, CW Saturn's goals were for Superman to allow the world to end, he could just explode every atom, but this was more dramatic.
After CW Saturn set off the bombs Superman went to Pakistan where one of the Oppenheimer nightmares lay, no one knew how to disarm it and no one but Superman knew the reaction began. He crashed through the floors as it began to glow red, he fused the hairline cracks, and lifted it on his back as he flew it out. Forty kilometers above it went off, most of it went into space (well what about the rest of it) then Superman went to his next targets. The psychics faculty at Yale built one under false pretenses and fortunately Superman knew and flew under the campus following the trail of burning nitrogen. He picked up the football sized bomb and thrust it into the mantle. (wouldn’t that cause some seismic trouble) At Cambridge, a professor followed a dream and built a device set off by DNA, it would wipe out all life and could create new at the site of ground zero. The chemical trigger was already farming, not alive by any definition, but the bomb was when Superman threw it at Polaris, the explosion contained within his cape. He disarmed thousands more in order of how close were the targets, within an hour and forty-two minutes. Then he flew to Metropolis and met Kristin on top of the Galaxy Building.
23
Since CW Saturn possessed Kristin, she’s been forced to commit acts of destruction, mayhem pushing the planet near nuclear war and stealing Clark Kent. CW Saturn could not be exorcised and could not rip him from her and yet some still said there’s only one way. “There were those who claimed that the death of this pawn, this innocent child without family or past, was the only way to save the world.”p.184 Superman thought of any other alternatives, so far she has done nothing he couldn't reverse, (hmm) CW Saturn wasn't interested in destroying life but innocence. (hmm) “And if Superman killed Kristin Wells in order to stop her reign of terror, then it was Superman, along with all he stood for, that was destroyed.”p.185 (there it is) He won't kill her, he’ll do what he does to all criminals, follow her to the ends of Creation, couldn't be a nobler mission. Then Kristin’s eyes glowed red and an inhuman voice called out to Superman that he’ll answer to him now.
24
Two days before that Monday there was little news as broadcasting wasn't coming out of Metropolis, mass transit was impossible and people stayed home. Skvrsky walked in the abandoned subway and took off his disguise and Luthor made sure he had the hair in his coat when he entered the abandoned WWII bomb shelter. Luthor met The Shadow in there and gives him the hair for his end of the bargain, he believes he is what he says he is, just satisfied he is bound by contract. He wants to know his game though, what just stops him from destroying the city, Luthor is a powerful soul in this world, but does he remember the one he phased through, just the pain. He was in pain too, but here his power is limited, he doesn't even know where the gateway is. Luthor laughs he has the hair now, so he owes him.
Luthor is given a book on the psychics of alternate universes, Luthor asks what he intends to do with the hair. The Shadow proposes an exchange in information, he’ll answer that question for the location of the gateway, Luthor’s not that interested just curios. Luthor is among the most curios creatures in Creation, he wants to know more, Luthor confesses it’s in New England. The Shadow says he doesn't know what he’ll do with the hair and disappears. Luthor screamed in frustration as Superman flew him back to prison, it was all an elaborate trick, (the book was a rebound copy of Catch 22) now that Superman knew the location he could close it. “Heroes, above all, are people who succeed, they sometimes fail in their immediate goals-staying alive, for example-in order to succeed in their ultimate goals-”-”Ultimately they succeed, and generally this is because they set out on purpose to succeed. They keep control.”p.190 Control of their surroundings and knew what happens next, this trick by Superman was on Saturday and explained what happened on Monday.
25
The demon called out that he won as Superman flew along the rising black pillar. The pillar stopped rising and the Universe stopped heading towards entropy, time froze. With the blackness CW Saturn took his original form, (you know the classic devil) Superman figured his plan was to get him to kill Kristin, but he’s in charge now. CW Saturn says when the conversation ends Kristin will die, her mortal form was overextended. Superman backhands him but he won't waste his power on anger, he tells CW Saturn to undo the damage and why was it Kristin. She was an element most susceptible because she didn't belong. In this instant Superman could do or say no wrong and he wants to know how to save Kristin, it’s at the Center of Short-Lived Phenomena in Skvrsky’s desk. Superman wants Clark Kent back, it would upset the balance to do so, so substitute the memory for Kristin. He owes CW Saturn nothing, so he wants nothing more to do with him, so leave this realm and deal with his master. Four in the afternoon on Monday there was a pause and the shriek of CW Saturn leaving Kristin’s body died in the air. (her body fell to the roof)
26
“Shortly before four in the afternoon on the third Monday in the month of May, the people of the city of Metropolis learned the meaning of joy.”p.195 They had no explanation and there were gaps in their knowledge of the day like they just woke up after a long time. The first thing they saw was Superman flying across the sky, he became a symbol of their joy and felt an unexplainable miracle. The superintendent looked over Kristin’s empty apartment, inexplicably unrented for a year. The superintendent would find a renter tomorrow, right now he felt like throwing a party.
Morgan Edge yelled for Clark who just seemed to hang up on him, but his anger was performative, to his dismay he felt mellow and centered. He found Don Reed at Clark’s desk; he didn't know why he was there either. Outside the window (Clark insisted his office have a window) they could hear people in the streets celebrating, instead of going over the evening news Edge takes Reed out for a martini. As Superman flew overhead the feeling spread in the air communicating one thing, “This day, though, the souls who had subjugated the surfaces of the small planet needed no artificial aides, the newspapers, the radios, televisions, even word of mouth, to know it was a good day.”p.197 The next time Clark would be over the air waves it would be Tuesday, this Monday the entire world population of the city took the day off. “A great miracle had happened here.”p.197
Superman warded of the feeling until his job was done, at the Center of Short-Lived Phenomena and found the notebook in the desk. He collected the chemicals and herbs and flew to the Galaxy Building roof where he made the serum and where the girl no one remembered was. The serum was what Luthor used to cure his heart disease, now it worked on Kristin growing new and stronger tissue. (the FDA rules it unacceptable because it causes mumps and rhesus monkeys but you know I think people will deal with a vaccine for mumps and herpes if it means they no longer have cancer) Awake, Kristin answers his questions, she’s a history student of Columbia in the year 2055, she’ll get a doctorate in 59, (and become a professor) and tells him Happy Miracle Monday. This is the first one people will celebrate, she came to find out why and she remembers everything, at least this historical moment has a happy ending. (so it really is something to celebrate)
There were historians everywhere (hiding in the bushes) to find out but now only she knows, CW Saturn picked her because she was there first a year ago, she’ll at least get some stories for her dissertation. Superman laughed having finally felt the feeling, he tells her what happened with CW Saturn and she teases the future. Jimmy will forget her, for the best, his grandson will marry her great whatever grandmother. (oh good she avoided an I’m my own grandpa situation) Lois won't be something as mundane as the president, (no that would be Luthor) but he already knows that, doesn't he, but they’re always the last to know. He told Kristin how he tricked Luthor (pretty much just his powers and smoke and mirrors) and gives her the lock of his hair, he asks if they’ll ever be friends again, someday. Before Kristin leaves, she thanks him for the wonderful time. (she does regret not meeting John Chancellor)
27
Kristin’s final journal entry, the lock of hair belongs to the university at display in the Superman Museum. The tests reveal it’s not human hair and has the genetic structure Superman is supposed to have, though it is a laboratory reproduction. Her story was believed and it is believed Superman thought it was his, it is not and that's the mystery, no one at the time but Luthor could produce it. Kristin has her own theory and will tell it after she’s reorientated with her period of speech. (the disco slang has to die) She’s writing the entry on her new antique typewriter, with no more discos she took it up as a hobby, who knows where she’ll get more carbon ribbons. (thought to cause cancer in secretaries but that sounds more like correlation not causation) She believes Luthor made the switch thinking the devil needed an artifact to possess Superman’s soul. Why, she cites Hamlet who let Claudius live so he wouldn't enter Heaven. Luthor discovered an afterlife and didn't want to send Superman to Hell. “Superman was then correct in assuming that even where he could not see it, there was good in all life, a good that made it important to treasure that life.”p.205

this is all oficial information and no leaks
the astral express crew are going to a new planet called penacony because they got invited to a festival (I'll talk about it later).
penacony is also known as the "Planet of Festivities". the planet is actually a hotel that let's you travel to a dream world and oder people's dreams. before becoming a hotel penacony was a prison planet for the ipc. the planet mascot is called clockie.
penacony is ruled by the family. the family consists of five lineages that manage penacony :
- oak family (politics)
- alfalfa family (economics)
- bloodhound family (security)
- iris family (culture)
- nightingale family (construction)
there are 3 new species :
- halvian
- pepeshi
- intellitron
the festival is called Charmony Festival with a long history and this is the first time the family invited outsiders to the festival.
the factions they invited are as follows :
- astral express crew
- annihilation gang (I'll talk about them later)
- the steloran hunters (sam)
- ipc (aventurine)
- intelligentsia guilt (dr. ratio)
- garden of recollection (black swan)
- masked fools (sparkle)
- galaxy rangers (acheron)
- xianzhou luofu (they refused the invite)
other new characters :
- sunday (I think he is from the oak family and his sister is robin)
- robin (she is a cosmic superstar)
- misha ( he is a staff member but I think he could be related to the nightingale family)
- firefly (I think she is from the iris family)
- gallagher (from the bloodhound family)
annihilation gang wants to couse chaos on penacony. some members are going to try and harm/assassinate people in order to couse chaos.
the members that we know of are:
-akash (target robin and sunday)
- durba (target sparkle)
- catarina (target avanturine)
- costance (target black swan)
- duke inferno (we don't know if he has one, he is the father of all the oder members)
the targets could not be true because the fandom determined them based on the paths that duke inferno assigned each child to harm/assassinate.
if you have any questions or want me to go in more detail please ask
((wait the next update is 2.0 I thought the next update was a filler one... can anyone summarize what's the update's about.))

Kero Guardia

Eye Color: Black
Hair Color: Black
Homeland: Cynopraedium
Misc. Info
Sexuality: Lesbian
Best Subject: PE

Dislikes: The underground, ghosts, history homework, winter.
Talents: Changing weapons and fight styles in a blink.
The firstborn of the Guardia family, a charming and carefree woman.
◓ Order aligned, overall.
◓ She’s been know to break a rule or two if she deems them unreasonable, but always follows Vero’s direct oders.
◓ Was kicked out the heiress position for “performing a miracle”. That’s how she chooses to see it, and won’t ever regret what she did.
◓ Feels as if she’s failed Vero by giving her all that responsibility. That said Kero won’t take it back. She can’t. So instead she is Vero’s loyal second hand. That’s the least she can do.
◓ Refuses ANY leading position. She’s a knight, not a king.
◓ The one you can count on to help with a smile! Kero likes lending a hand, specially with physical work. This has gained her a lot of admirers.
◓ Technically she is the main supervisor of Äte, but there’s no way she can control a goddess born from chaos, right? It’s completely unreasonable. Plus Kero feels bad for her... So usually lets her off with just some scolding.
◓ Knows a good amount of history herself, mostly that related to conflicts and “gods”. A sword has to stay sharp, she says.
◓ Kero doesn’t keep grudges, nor does she hate. Life’s too short to be embittered!!
◓ ...But there’s exceptions, as always. Anyone who harms her family should just die. There is no middle ground between indifference and murderous hate.

Child of Nyx reader visiting Nabu in Tatarus and asking "Are going to listen now?"
No response
" You said that chaos would destroy the world, but it was order that allowed Braniac to attack earth and almost destroy it. You are just a hypocrite. And I want you to know that Primodial chaos is not the same as the lords of chaos that you fight, it was a just a a combination of everything, a void. But it also gave birth to the first gods, the very deities that created all of reality and brought order to chaos. Don't you see? Primodial chaos made Oder and gods maintain it, and I am first a child of Nyx not chaos, I was born with chaos magic but I choose to bring order with it. Nabu..... I am the decendant of Primodial chaos, not the chaos that kills everything and says that there are no rules, no. But the chaos that once was the universe, all mashed together and brought order. The gods also make sure that the universe will not return to chaos once more and hold Order, so do I. And don't pretend you didn't love me, you can't lie to me, I'm litterally related to love itself. I know you lords think you are above it or can't love, but you know what we had was real."
Reaction of Nabu?
No response. Nabu can’t talk without a host. However, the next time you return, if you return, the helmet is gone.

Long Away - chapter 1
Kylo Ren x Female Reader
Masterlist
Story: You have been hiding for years, ever since the slaughter in your temple. You were one of the many force-sensitive children that Luke Skywalker was training to be the New Jedi Order. You were there when Ben Solo killed everybody, but you were lucky enough to survive, you weren’t important, he didn’t remember that he let you go by accident. You had given up and ran away to hide in Dantooine, but when you heard that Kylo Ren had become the Supreme Leader, you realized that you couldn’t stay out of it any longer. Finding your way into the First Oder and gaining Kylo Ren’s trust so you could help the Resistance by giving them inside information. But things turned out to be very different than you expected to be the closer you get to the Supreme Leader. A/N: Hi guys, so this is my first fanfic and I am completely nervous about it. I have written more chapters of it already, but I am not sure if I am going to post it. Tell me if you guys like it or if I should keep posting. The first chapters are kinda boring because it’s the context of the whole story. If you wanna be tagged also, let me know. Love, and I hope you enjoy it. Words: 1.6k
It was a warm day in the Fields of Banir. It wasn’t sunny but you could feel the heat. It was the first time in a while that you were leaving the old Jedi Temple. You have been living there for the past few years, ever since you lost everything and everyone. You used your Force abilities to hide yourself, to shield yourself from any other Force sensitive being that might land. You had to go to Garang to get some of the supplies – even though you were living out of things you could collect in the fields. Sometimes you needed stuff, like medicine and fresh clothes, and that was when you would travel to the capital city of Dantooine.
You weren’t used to having many people around – especially when most of were Dantaris – but you still enjoyed having a change of scenery. Sometimes the cold walls of the ancient Temple became too much for you. It was there, in Garang when you first heard it.
“The First Order has a new Supreme Leader” someone around you said, you couldn’t identify the voice among the crowd.
“It is Kylo Ren, you know? That guy in the mask” other person replied.
“Does that mean things are getting worse?” the voice faded away and you couldn’t hear the answer. Kylo Ren was the Supreme Leader now? That meant he wasn’t being controled by someone, he wasn’t being brainwashed to be in the Dark Side. He was fully part of the Dark Side now. And was its leader. You shook your head, that wasn’t your problem. It was when your mind started to fade.
“(Y/N)!” you heard someone screaming. You were lost among the chaos, the buildings were collapsing and there were flames everywhere. “Stay where you are!”, you heard Hylia’s voice in your head.
Hylia was your best friend, the one who took care of you when you first arrived to the Temple, feeling alone and afraid, after losing your parents and discovering your Force sensitiveness. You couldn’t leave her there to die. You disobeyed her orders and tried to find her. Then you saw him, Ben Solo killing the padawans. Hylia was standing in front of him and with a furious scream, she ran into his direction holding up her green lightsaber. They started to fight and then she saw you, she didn’t say a word, she concentrated, her hand drawn out and in this weak moment the man in front of her killed her with his lightsaber. He turned around to find other remaining padawans and he passed right next to you. He didn’t see you. You ran to Hylia’s body. She was barely alive, wounds from lightsabers do not bleed, but are just as fatal as a blaster shot.
“Hide.” she said. It was when you realized she was using her powers to hide you from Ben. You felt tears on your cheeks. She faded away, hiding your Force signature has weakend her badly wounded body. And you ran, never looking back.”
Hylia died to protect you and her last word was the thing you have been doing ever since. You didn’t want to do anything about what was going on in the galaxy. Let the Resistance and the First Order kill themselves. But now… now things were different. Ben Solo wasn’t a bad person and you knew it, he had saved you once before during training, so long before the massacre happened. Maybe Ben Solo was indeed dead and now all that remained was the devious Kylo Ren, now the Supreme Leader.
It was one of the teachings of a jedi, to never be selfish. You could help to defeat him. You could help to avenge Hylia and all the others that died by his hand. Because now it was just himself, not someone controlling his mind.
You had a feeling. You could do it, you could help somehow. And inside you, you felt the urge to do something, you felt that you couldn’t handle another day of solitude in that goddamn Jedi ruin, another day in this goddamn planet. You had your lightsaber with you, you didn’t need anything else, you could leave everything behind and that was what you did.
You entered that place and it smelt bad, the smell of dust and old durasteel. You saw the man behind the balcony.
“I need a ship” you said straight forward. He looked at you and laughed.
“You have currency?” he replied with a sarcastic smile.
“How much?” and the answer that he gave you made you gasp. “That is an absurd amount of credits!” you protested, you didn’t have nearly enough credits for that.
“No money, no ship.”
“It must have another way to get it.”
“You are that girl, right? That lives in the ancient Temple?”
“You can say that.”
“Are you a Jedi? Hear they could do stuff.” he asked and you bulffed.
“Of course not.” you answered as it was an insult, mostly for him to believe you.
“You know how to fight?” he were asking with a lot of interest
“I do…” you suspicious answered. “Get to the point.”
“Get me this man, and the ship is yours.” He said showing you a hologram of a Dantari.
“What has he done?”
“He owes me credits. Bring him to me and you get a ship. His name is Barak Norurdi and he lives in the Taikana Hills. You have until tomorrow morning.”
“That is ridiculous”.
“Bring me Barak or no ship.”
You went out of that old place thinking about what you were going to do with your life. Going after a dantari? For what? Just for you to try to find Kylo Ren and kill him? Or at least help to destroy his Order? What were you thinking?
You had that feeling again. The Force wanting to talk to you somehow. You had shut yourself to the Force for so long and you couldn’t understand why now it was finding your way back to you. If only master Luke was still around…
You got in your way to the Taikana Hills, the sun was almost setting when you got there. You saw a little house, there was light on, you decided to go there, maybe they would know something about Barak.
You knocked on the door. No answer. You knocked again. You heard someone speak in Dantarian. The door was open.
“Hi” you said with a simple smile, hoping that he would know your language.
“Hello” he answered in a thick accent, no smile.
“I am looking for Barak Norurdi, have you heard of him?” the man gave you a suspicious look.
“It is I, who asks?” that was incredibly easy, you could barely believe it.
“I came to collect your debt to Caran Spero.” You said more firmly than you felt.
“I owe no currency to Caran Spero. Caran Spero owes me. He stole from me.” He said getting angrier.
“Look, I am sorry, ok? But I am just following what was asked from me.”
“Stupid human.” And he closed the door.
“It’s going to be on the hard way then.” You told yourself. You kicked the door and it opened with a bang. The dantari man looked at you surprised. He came in your way with angriness. You had your staff with you, you wouldn’t use your saber anymore. You fought the dantari man, he was using his bare hands and you were skiving from his punches using your body and staff. Your staff went down to his legs making him fall behind, his head hitting the floor, he had a painful expression on.
“Look man, I’m sorry ok, but I gotta get out of this planet.” And you knocked him unconscious. You thought about how you could bring that heavy dantari back to Garang. You went out the wooden house and tried to find for some short of speeder. What were you expecting? Dantaris aren’t people who use tech… well, but this one apparently was. Maybe that was the reason why he was in debt with Spero.
You put the unconscious man, tied up, on the speeder and started to drive. You felt the wind in your face, it was night already and you had to smile, you haven’t felt that alive for so long, maybe what you were doing was right afterwards. It felt right.
You got to the store after a couple hours.
“Oh, the bounty hunter is back.” Spero said when he saw you entering his shop.
“I am not a bounty hunter” and you dropped Barak on the floor in front of him. He was up now, but all tied up, he couldn’t make a proper move.
“Oh, ho ho ho. It seems like a bounty hunter to me! Well done, well done!” He said, coming around the dantari laying on the floor.
“Can I get the ship now?”
“Sure thing, sure thing. Let me show you, it’s already outside in the back.” you followed him to the back and there was an old ship there.
“That is garbage!” you exclaimed, angry.
“Well, I didn’t say what kind of ship, right? That is what you got. You didn’t seem that had that much work to bring him back to me.”
“You are a worm!”
“Careful with your words, young lady. You know what? Now you got no ship, that’s it, that’s what you get for ingratitude.” In your fury you got your lightsaber from your belt, hidden behind your tunic and threatened him with the saber on his neck, the blue light lightening up both your faces.
“You said you were no Jedi” he roared.
“And I am not, the Jedi are dead. Now give me the ship. A good one.”
“Alright, alright, since you asked nicely” and he escorted you to the other hangar. “It’s a CT-21, good model, you can get to where ever you want fast.” You looked at him and then ran to the ship, getting in. You knew how to pilot from your padawan days.
You started to pilot the ship, and in no time you were leaving Dantooine, the place you thought you’d die in. Now you were heading to the unknown… or better saying, heading to Kylo Ren.

The Freedom of Expression Ep 6 - 'Antrum', the most cursed movie in history.
K: Hi this is Dir en grey's Kaoru, and The Freedom of Expression..Joe san, Tasai san..
J: Yep
K: I think the viewers already realise this, but we're shooting four epidodes at once. (note:* the covid episodes were aired at short notice after ep 3*).
J: Yes, four.
T: Our clothes havn't changed.
K: Is our positioning ok like this? Wouldn't it be better with you in the middle, Kaoru?
K: Well, next time we could change seats if we want? But, I havn't seen you two in a long time, I thought it would be better to look at you from over here.
J: Ah, yes. If you are in the middle you have to keep looking from side to side..
K: Yeah, so..we could change seats next time...We might even change our filming location?
J: For sure
K: I don't know though...we can carry on without making too many set plans.
J: I see.
K: He's not coming out today, is he?
J: He's not. Let's leave him alone.
K: Well, shall we get started?... Oh, actually, when we finished recording the last epidode, my boss came here, and said 'that was a lie, thats wrong'.
J: Oh, what was it again? He took offense to something written in a magazine.
T:...and stormed over there.
K: He didn't actually angrily storm over there, he apparently went there, not to tell them to write nice stuff, but to get them to write what his band was really like, and he was fine with it then *1
J: Ahh, to stand out?
K: He was quite agitated. *T laughs*
J: No, but its a bit worrying isn't it? From the listeners point of view, you hear that type of story and interpret it as something amusing, the story gets communicated on in that way.
K: Well, theres no fire without smoke..
J: You mean, theres no smoke without fire.
K: Yeh.. Its because he's just a bit scary *the others laugh*, thats why that type of gossip appears.
J: Of course
K: Right?
T: I see
J: Well, we don't know what he was really like back then...
K: I don't either.
J: But he surely wasn't one of those cuddly, happy people?
K: People in bands were just kinda scary back then, right?
J: They were scary, yeah. But they were also really cool, weren't they?
K: *nods*
J: ..in reality....I think they were.
K: We're (Dir en grey) not scary though, are we?
J, T: Uhh... *K laughs*
J: You are not scary, but...
K: We're not THAT scary right? *laughing*
J: You have an incredible aura..
K: Well, lets leave it..
J: Fow now, lets just say your boss wasn't trying to make excuses..
K: Excuses? *laughs*
J: ..he was just trying to tell us that the stuff we said was not true. Right, well lets introduce today's topic.
' "You watch it, you die", Antrum - The most cursed movie in history.'
'Unbelievablely, its to be released in Japan, this incredible movie is to be screened. Filmed in California, America in 1970, the movie 'Antrum'. Rumored to be excessively scary, and to bring about misfortune to those who watch it, it was said that this movie should not be released, but buried and restricted. However, in 1988, it was screened for the first time in Budapest, Hungary, and during its screening, a fire broke out in the theatre and it burnt to the ground. 56 people died in this incident. Since then, whenever this movie is screened, the people involved have suffered mysterious deaths, one after the other. It became a work of art that no-one wanted to touch. Then, we arrive at the present day. After a long search, documentary movie makers Michael Licini and David Amito discovered the 35mm film reel of 'Antrum'. They have decided to screen it with the warning that viewers must take personal responsibility for anything that happens. The movie will be screened this year in venues across the country from Friday.'
K: Ahh, is it okay?...if this kind of incident occurs?
J: It says, if you watch it you die!
T: Its spooky.
K: Whether it lives up to expectations or not, theres trouble either way.
J,T: Thats right.
J: If people die, they're in trouble, and if people don't die, and they get sued for misrepresentation, they'll be like 'What? Arn't you glad you didn't die?!'
T: I wonder what will happen.
J: They say everyone has to take personal responsibility.
K: Well, I'm slightly interested.
J: Would you go and watch it?
K: Hmm, I want to see it, yeh.
J: You're attracted to it?
K: Um, Horror is...
Kami: Nononono! You must not go to see this, you must not go to see this!
J: Ahh, Kami says you musn't, he's worried suddenly....Its not okay, Kami?
Kami: No no, its not. I was quiet so far because I didn't want to have anything to do with this topic.
J: Oh, with this topic?
Kami: Yeh, its really scary.
J: Is this type of thing not good?
Kami: Its not good. I have to work nights..
J: Ah, night shifts? *the others laugh*
Kami: and I work alone.
J: Yeh.
K: Well, yeh, thats scary.
Kami: They say you'll die, I don't wanna die on my night shift.
J: Yeh, but gods can't die can they?
T: Right.
Kami: Well, outwardly.
J: What does that mean? Outwardly?? *laughing*
Kami: We don't die completely..
J: Oh, but from the human perspective you appear to die?
Kami: Yeah, I appear to die, but then am reborn. *J, T laugh*
K: He doesn't need to be scared.
T: Pretty interesting.
Kami: No no, the bit where I appear to be dead..its kinda troublsome.
J: Its trouble? You're a bit nervous about that?
Kami: Yeh, im nervous. Its not good.
J: Its not good?
Kami: Yeah, going to see this movie is not good.
J: But, there is a certain attraction by people to these kind of supernatural, occult things isn't there?
K, T: Yeah, yeah.
J: You know, things that science can't prove.
Kami: Yeah, I know about all of it though.
J: You do?
Kami: Yes, I do. Because, god created everything on earth.
T: Well, yeah.
J: I see.
T: So, he shouldn't really be scared of this, should he?
K: Really, that makes this situation here part of the occult too, doesn't it?
J: This is the occult. *T laughs* Us talking to a god..*K laughing* Talking to a god about movies even!
Kami: Well, there are many types of god aren't there?
J: Ahh, there are many types, yeh.
Kami: Yeh yeh, there are all knowing-all powerful gods...and gods like this one here. *the others laugh*
J: This god isn't very 'all knowing-all powerful'?
Kami: No, im probably in the lower orders.
J: *laughing* Yeh, we know that!
T: He sounds like a salaryman.
J: A hierarchy of gods..
Kami: Well, the middle-lower orders.
J: The middle-lower oders? *laughing*
T: Thats quite low, right? *J laughing*
J: It might just not be limited to recent times, but isn't there quite an occult boom going on now? How do you see it Kaoru?
Kami: An occult boom?
J: An occult boom.
Kami: Well, maybe its because a lot of things have already been solved. As science progresses, we know more...like the Higgs particle, you know it?
J: I've heard the name, but I don't know the details.
Kami: Its kinda like how the source of gravity was discovered. They spin it round really fast and crash it, right?
J: What a simple explanation!
Kami: Its in Switzerland!
T: In Switzerland...
J: They have the equipment to spin it and crash it powerfully, right?
Kami: Yes, yes. Atoms, they crash atoms into one another..and when they crash, the atoms break apart, and various particles have been discovered....and they saw a black hole forming and such. These kinds of mysterious things are really happening. *2.
T: Ehh, Kami, thats impressive.
Kami: So it could be just because of these solved mysteries, peoples' imaginations are swelling and giving them wild ideas?
J: I see.
K: Well, there must be people who like this stuff.
Kami: Wasn't my explanation easy to understand?
J: Yes, it was very well explained.
Kami: Spinning it around and bashing really hard, and then a kind of mysterious feeling...
*everyone laughs*
J: Thst is super easy to understand. Explained in simple terms.
T: Exactly
J: Only by a god..*3
T: Hey Joe, is that okay? *laughs*
J: Kami's awful aspects have transfered to me. *T laughs* The hopless parts. Those parts are showing in me.
Kami: Don't say hopeless!
K *laughs*
J: Oh did you hear that bit?
Kami: I heard it.
J: Of course, Kami hears everything (direct translation: hell ears)
K: This is awful!
Kami: Not hell, heaven.
T: Isn't this fourth time getting tiring?
*laughing*
J: Of course not
T: Actually, ive been to an event before where a spirit appeared.
J: Ehh?
T: When I say spirit, I mean Lincoln. There was a movie about the American president, Lincoln. So I went as a reporter to a weird movie event about it. And there was a medium there who could channel Lincoln so we could ask anything.
J: Wow...so, Lincoln spoke to you in person?
T: The medium started going 'Mmmghh mmmghh' and then 'Ready', so we all thought Lincoln had come to us, and we were told to ask anything, so someone asked 'Mr Lincoln, Mr Lincoln, what did you think of the movie? ..and after about three seconds the medium suddenly dropped down and said, 'Lincoln has left us'.
J: Ehh?! He didn't say anything?!
T: No, Lincoln didn't say anything.
J: Just 'Mmgh, mmgh'?
T: Yeah, and then he fell straight down..and was finished in three seconds. The whole venue had been waiting so eagarly...
J: What kind of article did Tokyo Sports write?
T: About how the venue was....*4
*laughing*
K: That fits well with this show!
J: This kind of chaos. So you were there, Tasai san?
T: Yes, I was reporting on it.
J: Oh really?
T: Yeh, that type of thing happened.
J: I wonder how the medium was after that, after Lincoln left.
T: She's getting paid for nothing.
K: Well, maybe some more accidents happened...
J: Oh yeah, she felt the danger. She didn't research enough before calling him.
T: She should have studied.
J: Maybe she didn't expect that many reporters?
K: Oh, maybe, she thought 'oh no..'
J: Maybe she was shocked to see so many people when she turned up. But the movie company paid her to promote the movie like this right?
T: Yes
J: Ahh, but people will probably go to see this movie right, Kami?
Kami: As for Lincoln coming down, he probably didn't say anything because he planned to speak in English.
J, T: Oh yeah.
K: Maybe
Kami: They forgot how to speak English?
J: I see..he hasn't been called in a long time, so even he forgot how to speak English?
Kami: No no, the medium.
J: Ah, the medium? Ah, I see.
Kami: Even I forget what to say sometimes, as soon as I think about it, and when im listening, you're like 'oh he's gone'
J: Isn't that dementia? Kami, can you speak to dead people like a medium can, can gods do it?
Kami: Gods? There are gods who can do that.
K: But you can't.
J: But you can't?
Kami: No, I can't do anything *J laughs*
J: We can only pray to you?
Kami: Yes, only pray.
J: I reckon I could be a god then too.
K: Yeh, yeh.
J: Its pretty interesting, no matter what your capacity, you could be a god, right? *laughing*
Kami: No, being a god is not about your capacity...
J: Oh, its not, im wrong?
Kami: Are you making fun of me?
J: No, im not! Im just too naive.
Kami: Being a god is something you're born with.
T: Ahh, its deep.
Kami: Being a god is something you are born with.
K: He just said that.
J: Im kinda imagining him with a smug face right now. *K laughs*
J: I havn't met him so I don't know though.
Kami: Even though I can't do anything, Im different from you guys.
J: Ah, you are born different?
Kami: Yes, yes, yes.
J: You exist differently from regular humans?
Kami: Yes, yes, yes.
J: I see.
K: We're right back to the occult now, aren't we?
J: Yeh, this is almost like a Tokyo Sports kind of issue.
Kami: No, you mustn't doubt the existence of god!
J: Oh, you musn't?
Kami: You mustn't! If you do, and you watch this movie, you will die.
J: We'll die?
T: Scary!
K: I wonder if we'll really die?
Kami: So believe in god!
K: Oh, if you believe in god, you won't die if you watch this movie?
Kami: Yeh, you can increase your shrine donation or something..
J: It ends up with money again *K laughs* He always ends up talking about money.
T: Whats up with him? *K laughing*
J: He doesn't have anything nice to say. Its always down to money in the end. With Ghosn he was the same.
T: He was, yeh *laughing*
Kami: Thats right
J: This has nothing to do with the movie 'Antrum'...
K: So there is a subscribe option on youtube right?
J: Yes, if you subscribe for us...
K: I think I should say 'please subscribe', I havn't said it yet * T laughs*
J: Please subscribe, everyone.
T: Please.
K: If we get more subscribers, we can do more things.
J: Right
Kami: Yes, please subscribe.
J: Subscribers will probably...
*sound cuts out*
On screen message :The sound cut out for some reason. We'll let you know what they said. For now, this episode has ended .
*1 - Not 100% sure I understood this story right.
*2 Translating quantum physics isn't my strong point.
*3 Im fairly sure i've missed some nuance here.
*4 Couldn't catch this.

First Love // pt. 2
Part 2! yay! in the next part y/n is gonna meet luka ;)
after two classes we got a short break. some students walked outside to get fresh air while others were going to the library.
i decided to join the people who went to the library, then i could do the homework we already got assigned to do.
i grabbed my book and pen and started with the work. a guy called adrien, marinette, alya and her boyfriend nino were also in the library doing their school work.
"so, y/n. what's it like moving to another country?", alya asked me.
"its scary, but i got used to france by now. there still new things but it's not as scary as it was at the beginning", i told her.
"do you like germany or france more?", she asked with a grin.
i thought for a second. "well, i love germany, i grew up there. but i haven't seen that much from france to tell you which country i like the most"
"we could show you around today!", suggested marinette. nino nodded in approval but adrien looked sad.
"hey, whats up man?", asked nino.
"i can't go with you today, i have chinese and piano lessons this afternoon", he said sadly.
"oh no, thats awful, adrien", said marinette quietly.
"i bet you can go next time", i said, trying to cheer him up.
"yes, don't be so sad about it", alya told him.
i know that adrien is the kid from the big fashion designer gabriel agreste. i guess adrien hasn't much free time.
"i hope so", said adrien and turned back to his work, like the others.
~ time skip cuz the author is a lazy piece of shit ~
school was now over. i walked outside of the building with alya, nino and marinette. they were really good friends i can tell, they made jokes, laughed about each other and worked so well together.
"so, do you have something in mind you want to see?", nino asked me.
i shook my head. "no, but i would like to eat something"
alya and marinette giggled. "i know a good place where we can eat pizza. let's go there!", said marinette and walked in front of us.
"yes, pizza!", i and nino yelled at the sime time.
after a short walk the stepped into the pizzeria and quickly sat down. a woman came up to us and gave us the menu.
"i would say two pizzas are enough, aren't they?", alya said.
"yes, can we order pepperoni pizza? please?", aksed marinette.
"y/n what do you want?"
"umm- pepperoni is good"
alya nodded. "pepperoni and margherita it is". she put the menu down and waved for the waiter to come up.
we ordered our food and drinks and i sent a text to my mother, that i would see the city with some friends... can i consider them to be my friends already? or is it too early for that?
"hey, y/n what's pizza in german?", asked nino after a while.
"pizza", i said smiling.
"okay, and what's girl in german?"
"mädchen"
we continued this 'game' for the whole time we ate and even after. the others would aks me what's blabla in german and i would tell them. sometimes i've taught them short and easy sentences. nino asked me what "you are the most beautiful girl in the world" in german is, so he can compliment alya. after he told her that she looked at him confused and asked if he needs a tissue.
we were on the way to a park when suddenly the weather drastically changed. it was a sunny day until now, now it's raining and storming like hell.
"uh- that's not normal here, right?", i asked.
then a weird looking person with an umbrella flew over us. this is an akuma attack, right?
"oh my god, an akuma attack! i need to find ladybug!"
alya, honestly get your shit together. it's super dangerous right now and all you can think of is ladybug? weird flex, but okay.
"alya, isn't it a better idea to go home?", nino asked her. he is panicking.
"i- i need to go home! sorry guys!", marinette said and ran off.
okay? bye?
"uhm, y/n do you know your way back home?", nino asked me.
i nodded. "yes, i do actually"
"good, be safe and- bye!", he ran off, chasing alya, who had her phone in her hands and yelled for ladybug.
i ran as fast as i could, the weather was really cold now and i didn't wear any warm clothes.
on my way i bumped into a lot of people, the city was in total chaos. i hope ladybug and chat noir will fix this mess. when i got home and opened the door i was soaked, my hair was wet and i froze like hell.
"y/n, oh my god", my mom came up to me. she seemed very worried and anxious.
"hi, mom. is s/n home yet?"
my mom nodded. "yes. oh thank god nothing happend to you. now get a shower, you're gonna get ill"
i quickly got to the bathroom and stepped into to shower. the warm water felt good on my cold skin and i instantly felt better.
after showering i put on new clothes and sat down on my desk. i wanted to do the rest of my homework but i first texted f/n what happened today.
me: und dann meinte alya sie muss das filmen und ist davongerannt
(and then alya ran off to record the whole situation)
f/n: na die hat aber nerven. dir geht's aber schon gut oder?
(well, she got some nerves. but everything's fine, right?)
me: ja mir gehts gut. an sowas werde ich mich jetzt gewöhnen müssen
(yeah, i'm fine. i need to get used to that kind of stuff)
f/n: hey ich hab gute neuigkeiten!
(hey i have good news)
me: friends/crush/name (when your friend doesn't have a crush, she got one now lmao) hat dich mal um ein date gebeten?
(f/c/n asked you out?)
f/n: nein :( aber es steht endlich fest wohin die abschlussfahrt geht
(no :( but i know where we are going for the school trip)
me: er soll sich mal zamreißen. ok wohin geht's??
(he needs to get his shit together. ok so where are you going??)
f/n: PARIS!!
(no translation needed lol)
me: hOLY SHIT EHRLICH??
(holy shit seriously??)
f/n: JAA WIR SIND 7 TAGE IN PARIS
(yes we're gonna stay for 7 days)
me: omG ich hoffe das ist nicht alles so durchgeplant dass wir uns nicht treffen können
(omG i hope you have some free time for yourselfs so we can meet)
f/n: frau teachers/name hat uns schon gesagt dass wir mittags und abends für uns haben
(miss t/n told us that we can spent the noon and evening for ourself)
me: das is gut dann können wir uns abends treffen und am Wochenende
(good, so we can meet in the evening and on the weekend)
f/n: ich freu mich schon so!! ok, ich muss jetzt einkaufen gehen, byee
(i'm so excited!! ok, i need to go to the grocery store, bye)
me: same lol, hab spaß und byeee
(same lol (lol) have fun and bye)
f/n is coming to paris in three weeks! this is just great, i can show her my new home and maybe even my new friends!
after texting with f/n i really had to do my homework, so i did it. my mom brought me some food while i studied.
i finished my school work and looked at the clock. it was 7:29 pm.
i decided to watch tv and chill for the rest of the day.

I feel like for Claude based on how the naming schemes of the houses go, Golden Deer is a mix of both Adresta and Faergus since we know that adresta came first, but we don’t know the Oder of the other two. it makes sense for the alliance a relatively new power of nobles to have power struggles and such so maybe that’s why Claude has this sly, cunning side due to that world.
iirc, adrestia was first, then faerghus, then leicester—the latter two breaking off of adrestia in that order (but correct me if i’m wrong!). so the reason why they might have similar naming schemes is because some nobles stuck to their adrestian roots (i.e. riegan, ordelia, edmund) while others veered off to have their own identity (gloucester, goneril)
as the newest nation, i can see the reasoning behind them being in a power struggle, especially since it’s an alliance. in other words, the nobility are in equal standing to each other. unlike adrestia’s emperor or faerghus’s king, concrete ruling figureheads to their respective territories, the political power within leicester is pretty much even-split between all of the noble houses, with the leader just being the slightest bit higher in hierarchy
so why is claude the heir? dunno. it might have something to do with his relations to riegan. is riegan historically the ‘leader’ of the alliance? did riegan gain some influence and usurp the previous noble house? hard to say at this point, but there definitely has to be a reason why the current sway is with the riegan household
taking all of that into account, the lear squad would for sure have the ability to steal claude’s position under his nose. his whole ‘friendship speech’ might even be referring to the golden deer themselves? so he isn’t actually speaking to break off the war with adrestia + faerghus, but rather, banding all of leicester together to fight a common enemy—the other two nations
in any case, it would suit his motives. he gets brownie points for giving a morale-boosting speech, all the while solidifying his position by uniting the other houses under his wing. he all but says “i am your leader; you listen to me” and passes it off as a charismatic ‘our bonds give us strength!’ manifesto
claude’s nice but he’s not stupid. if he was, he wouldn’t have been leading leicester post-skip; there’s just too much conflict going around, especially with the whole continent-wide war. leicester needs a strong leader. they need someone who can, despite the nation’s politics, somehow band them together before they can use the ongoing chaos as an excuse to spiral into a civil war. so the fact the he is leicester’s leader is the sole reason why we shouldn’t take his words at face value
#fire emblem three houses#fe16#fe3h#claude von riegan#golden deer#speculations#prerelease#not op#he's a smartie#i would actually be surprised if his 'friendship is power' shtick was 100% genuine#i still stand by the idea that claude thinks friendship IS power#but it's not the forefront reason why he said it
